In October, 2010, a LPN at a nursing home in Howell, Michigan repeatedly gave diabetic medication to a resident in the facility for short-term rehabilitation who was not a diabetic. This caused the resident to slip into an irreversible diabetic coma. She died on November 16, 2010. The death certificate reflects absolutely nothing regarding the diabetic medication or the hypoglycemic coma.
MCLA 333.2891 is the law in Michigan that requires that physicians not certify a death certificate unless they know the cause of death. It is a crime to do so.
