Type I Diabetes is usually (but not always) diagnosed in people under the age of 40. In Type I Diabetes, the pancreas is unable to produce ANY insulin and people must receive insulin as part of their treatment. They will require insulin for life – to replace the insulin their body cannot make on its own. Type I Diabetes can be caused by injury to the insulin – making part of the pancreas by certain viruses, destroyed by the immune system. It can also be Hereditary.
