Republicans demanded significant cuts to benefits paid to nursing homes as part of the budget deal that just passed in Congress. As a harsh and frequent critic of the nursing home industry, I have never advocated reducing the amount of money it takes to properly care for the most vulnerable people in our society. Less money guarantees a lower level of care which will result in an increase in medical expense.
