Medical Malpractice Should Not Be Part of the Budget Debate

During the recent debate on the government debt ceiling, republicans repeatedly called for amendments having to do with more malpractice reforms to “save money.” More than 100,000 people per year die as a result of preventable medical injury, Medical mistakes kill more people than any other type of trauma. It is time for the insurance interests to back off and stop trying to use every crisis to eliminate medical accountability.
