Peripheral Vascular Disease and decreasing injury

Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) the decreased blood flow to or from the lower extremities. It is important to prevent injury to the lower extremities, as would healing can be decreased.

Recommendations to decrease foot injury include (but are not limited too):

1. Never go barefoot

2. Inspect your feet frequently for sores/breakdown or redness

3. Wear well fitting shoes with cotton socks or hose

4. Avoid scratching lower extremities

5. Avoid extreme temperature to the lower extremities

6. Wash feet carefully and pat dry

7. Carefully cut toenails after soaking or have them cut by a professional
