Delay, Deny, Defend

In his book “Delay, Deny, Defend: Why Insurance Companies Don’t Pay Claims – And What You Can Do About It”, author Jay Feinman explains why insurance companies increasingly fail to honor their promise of security.  As consumers, we pay our insurance premiums expecting that if something bad happens, our insurance company will be there to protect us from financial ruin.  Insurers, however, delay payment of justified claims, deny payment altogether, and defend their actions in order to improve their profits.

In his book, Feinman explains how people can be more cautious when shopping for policies and what to do when pursuing a disputed claim.  He also lays out a plan for the legal reforms needed to prevent future abuses.

Knowledge is power.  The more we know about the coverage provided by our own insurance policies and about how the claims process works, the better position we are in to protect ourselves.  This is especially true for seniors, who too often are the targeted and taken advantage of by companies looking to increase their profits.  As a result, seniors should take a moment to review their insurance policies to ensure that they have adequate protection.
